How Dental Implants Work

dental implant surgery

  1. The dental implant (titanium root) is placed into the jawbone with or without bone graft.

  2. The dental implant will fuse (osseointegrate) with your natural jawbone, with the two growing together to form a strong and long-lasting foundation for your replacement teeth.

  3. Once the implant fuses with bone, the tooth part (abutment)  is placed on top of the dental implant to connect the implant to the replacement tooth or teeth.

  4. An implant crown, an implant-supported bridge or dentures containing multiple teeth are then attached to the abutment.

  5. Other complementary procedures such as ridge expansion or sinus lift may be required
